Service Project

For our ward service project, we have been asked to plan a project with our families and then we'll meet as a ward to share our projects. We got together with a couple other families on Saturday and cleaned up a ugly and overgrown strip of city property near our neighborhoods. We were trying to help beautify our community. I wish we would have thought to wear shirts or vests that had "LDS" on them so people knew who we were. Lots of people drove by slowly to see what we were doing.

The kids picked up trash and Cayden was happy showing off every bug that he found.

We discovered some baby bunnies. They were the cutest little things and so tiny! One of them ran across the street and was too little to jump up the curb. We were able to save two out of three. They were hiding in the grass and would try to run at the last minute. One was not fast enough and was hit with the weed wacker. I hate to see a hurt animal. Cayden and another boy his age were the only kids to see the injured bunny. It was pretty sad. The girls were taking the first bunny to another family's garden while we worked. That family was going to take the bunnies to a park and let them go. They kids just adored the bunnies. Faith can't stop talking about how she wants a bunny for a pet now. She really wanted to keep one of the babies.
The girls are huddled together with one of the bunnies.
This is about half of the area that we cleaned up. It took us exactly two hours. Once some of the other families showed up, it went a lot faster! It felt great working together and improving the neighborhood. We don't live in this particular neighborhood or drive down this street, but we are close enough.

We are still trying to come up with a project and you are already done. That is so great that you were able to do something in your neighborhood.

(Sorry about the bunnies. I had a similar experience when I was little. We tried to keep the bunnies. It didn't end well.)
